A 1996 broker, an Australian licence that shows up straight away, but no Cyprus licence

OANDA is one of the few brokers in this group that can be found by its exact brand name on the very first try.

Thirty years and four licences: OANDA's regulatory record

Trustworthy, yes. OANDA is in the group of brokers I have the fewest second thoughts about on regulation: running since 1996, holding FCA, NFA, ASIC and MAS licences, all Tier-1. The real question for Vietnamese traders lies elsewhere: is this broker worth choosing over Exness or XM for you specifically?

This OANDA 2026 review answers that question, and my answer is “it depends on what you need”, with a very specific breaking point at the 10,000 USD figure.

OANDA was founded in 1996 and is headquartered in the USA/Canada, which means this broker has run right through the 2008 crisis, the 2015 CHF event and several major shake-outs of the industry. Four licences: FCA (UK), NFA (USA), ASIC (Australia), MAS (Singapore).

The ASIC register lists OANDA Australia Pty Ltd, AFS licence 412981, granted 26/03/2012, ABN 26 152 088 349, under a name matching the brand. By contrast, the CySEC register has no company named OANDA, this broker has no Cyprus licence, and you should know that if you come across some page making careless claims.

One thing that does not change compared with every other broker in this review series: a Tier-1 licence applies to the corresponding legal entity, while Vietnamese traders are often placed with an offshore legal entity whose protection is quite different.

Read the name of the legal entity in your account terms before depositing. It decides where you can file a complaint.

This broker is one you can find by its brand name: typing "OANDA" into the ASIC register returns the licence above. Of the 10 brokers with an ASIC licence that we track, only 4 work this way.

Two OANDA accounts, two worlds 10,000 USD apart

OANDA's fee structure is simple enough to describe in two sentences:

Standard, spreads from 0.6 pip, no commission, and no minimum deposit. You can literally open an account with 0 VND.

Core Pricing, raw spreads plus a commission of 0.70 USD per 10,000 units per leg, i.e. 7 USD/lot per side, but you need a deposit or balance of at least 10,000 USD. I read both figures on the help centre of OANDA Corporation, the US entity, on 21/10/2026; the entity serving international clients may set different terms.

That is where the break is. The account that is cheap for people who trade a lot demands an amount of capital most Vietnamese traders do not intend to put into a forex broker. The freely accessible account has a 0.6 pip spread, which is fine, but not at a level that would make anyone leave Exness.

If you plan to use Core Pricing, remember to add commission to the total cost instead of looking only at the spread figure; if you only have enough capital for Standard, compare that 0.6 pip with the broker you are using now before moving.

What to know about deposits and withdrawals at OANDA

The broker supports bank transfer, card and e-wallet. Withdrawal time depends on the method and on the legal entity you open your account with; e-wallets are usually faster than bank transfer, and fully KYC-verified accounts are less likely to be delayed.

There is no convenient domestic channel like the group of brokers focused on serving the Vietnamese market. This is where OANDA clearly shows that its focus is not here.

Platforms: OANDA Trade, MT4 and TradingView

OANDA has its own platform, OANDA Trade, plus MT4 and TradingView integration. MT4 is for people already used to it; TradingView is for people who live on charts; OANDA Trade is the broker's own more modern option. There is no MT5, so people running EAs on MT5 will be stuck.

Is OANDA a scam?

No. With an FCA/NFA/ASIC/MAS record and 30 years of operation since 1996, OANDA is not a scam model. I write this sentence more firmly than for most other brokers in the series.

Negative reports still exist, and when unpacked most of them come down to: not reading the account conditions carefully, blowing the account through leverage, and being asked for additional verification when withdrawing a large amount.

That last one is a compliance procedure, and every Tier-1 broker does it, so do not read it as a trick to hold on to your money. But remember: OANDA is not licensed in Vietnam, and you bear responsibility for your own choice.

Who OANDA suits, and who it does not

Suits: people who treat the reliability of a brand with nearly 30 years behind it and Tier-1 regulation as their number-one criterion, and who are willing to give up domestic convenience in exchange.

Does not suit: people who need fast Vietnam-style deposits and withdrawals, or small accounts wanting raw spreads; this group has better options. Whichever broker you choose, starting with small capital and low leverage before scaling up is still the right order.

Check OANDA yourself before depositing a large amount

  1. Real cost. Open the price board on your own account at two different times of day, then add spread and commission into a cost per lot. The figure the broker publishes is an average; what you get on a given trade can be higher.
  2. Withdrawal speed. Withdraw a small amount first and note when you requested it and when the money arrived. Speed depends on the payment channel and your verification status, so there is no single figure.
  3. Legal entity. Read the company name in your account terms. That name decides where you can complain.

Frequently asked questions

Is OANDA trustworthy?

OANDA has been operating since 1996 and is licensed by several Tier-1 regulators including the FCA (UK), NFA (USA), ASIC (Australia) and MAS (Singapore); the Australian licence (ASIC 412981) is listed in the ASIC register. That speaks to the legal entity holding the licence, not automatically to the legal entity you open your account with.

Does OANDA require a minimum deposit?

OANDA's Standard account has no minimum deposit. You can deposit any amount to start. The Core Pricing account (low spreads + commission), however, requires larger capital (about 10,000 USD).
