Can you be your own introducing broker to collect the rebate?
No. Both brokers whose terms I could retrieve ban it outright, and they ban the familiar workaround of putting a relative's name on the account as well. Exness calls this auto-referral and states plainly that the commission will not be paid. The consequences are heavier than most people assume: a blocked partner link and a held account.
This is a matter of contract terms between you and the broker, not a matter of law. Nobody gets an administrative fine for trying, but the commission does not arrive.
What the terms say, verbatim
Partner help pages are usually blocked to an ordinary browser. I retrieved the content through the two brokers' own public data endpoints on 16 August 2026.
| Broker | Terms, verbatim |
|---|---|
| Exness updated 19/06/2026 | "If you are trying to earn commission from your own trading by following your own partner link, it will not be rewarded. This is known as auto-referral and is prohibited at Exness." |
| Exness updated 07/08/2026 | "Exness does not allow relatives or friends of the publisher to register with Exness through the publisher's links or for the publisher to do so on their behalf." |
| IC Markets | "you will not be entitled to payment of any fees, should you or any of your related parties wish to register under your referral link" |
Note the phrases "related parties" and "relatives or friends". Both brokers wrote the scope wider than you personally, which means they anticipated the workaround.

Why brokers ban it, when the money is theirs
Referral commission is not a reward for trading. It is a client acquisition cost, paid by the broker to whoever brought in a new client the broker did not already have.
When you refer yourself, the broker gains no client. You are still you; the only difference is that the broker now has to pay extra for something that had already happened. From the broker's side that is not an acquisition cost but a discount they never agreed to.
It is also why the terms extend to relatives. If only you personally were banned, the workaround would be putting a spouse or sibling's name on it, and the economic substance would be identical.
What happens if you do it anyway
Many people assume the worst case is simply not being paid the commission. Exness's own documentation points to something heavier.
In its documentation on link blocking, Exness states that using deceptive methods to acquire clients is strictly prohibited, and that where abuse is suspected the partner link may be blocked and the account may be held or blocked during the investigation.
| What you stand to gain | What you put on the table |
|---|---|
| A few USD of rebate per lot | Partner link blocked |
| Trading account held during the investigation | |
| Capital sitting in that account cannot be withdrawn until it is resolved |
An account on hold means your money is stuck, and you do not control how long the investigation takes.
Three alternatives you can act on today
- Pick an account type with a lower net cost. This is the way to cut cost without asking anyone's permission. The gap between account types after the rebate is deducted is usually larger than the share you were planning to refund to yourself. Details in Exness account types (article in Vietnamese).
- Ask whoever currently pays your rebate about volume tiers. Many programmes have tiers, and the higher ones often are not applied automatically: you have to ask.
- Check that the rebate is arriving in full first. A lot of people go looking for a higher rate while the rebate they already have is leaking. How to reconcile the three numbers is in how do you know your rebate actually arrived.
Net cost per lot is the number you can actually change
"Can I refund myself" is a question with a settled answer, and the answer is no. The number that remains changeable is this one: how much you are paying per lot once everything is added and subtracted.
That figure takes two minutes to work out by hand, and it usually reveals far more headroom than the few USD you were considering bending the rules for.
Frequently asked questions
Do I get a rebate if I sign up under my own partner link?
No. Exness calls this auto-referral and states in its partner help centre that the commission will not be rewarded (version updated 19/06/2026).
What if a spouse or sibling registers instead?
Also no. Exness states plainly that it does not allow relatives or friends of the publisher to register through the publisher’s links. IC Markets writes it even wider, using the phrase "any of your related parties".
Why would a broker ban this when the commission is their own money?
Because referral commission is a cost of acquiring a new client, not a reward for trading. Referring yourself brings the broker no client, so from the broker’s side it is a discount they never agreed to.
If I do it anyway, what is the worst that happens?
Not just losing the commission. According to Exness documentation, where abuse is suspected the partner link may be blocked and the account may be held or blocked during the investigation, meaning the capital in that account cannot be withdrawn.
So what is the legitimate way to cut trading costs?
Pick an account type with a lower net cost, ask whoever pays your rebate about volume-based tiers, and check whether your current rebate is arriving in full. None of the three requires the broker’s permission.
