Can you keep your account when you change introducing broker?
It depends on the broker, and most people asking are worried about the wrong thing. At Exness you can change partner, with proof of account ownership, but trading accounts you have already opened stay linked to the old partner. For the new partner to receive the rebate, you open a new trading account after the change.
What does not change at any broker: your money, your trade history and your open positions do not go anywhere.
This is a question about a broker's operational process, not about who is right between you and your former introducer.
Three situations, three different outcomes
Newcomers tend to merge three separate things into one, then worry about the harmless one and overlook the one that matters.
| What you want | Do you lose the account | What you actually have to do |
|---|---|---|
| Change introducer, keep the same account | No | Ask the broker whether they allow it; each broker has its own policy |
| Open a new account under a different introducer | No, the old account remains | Move capital to the new account and accept that your history is split |
| Drop the introducer entirely, attach to nobody | No | Keep trading normally; there is simply nobody paying you a rebate |
Read across all three rows and the most common worry, losing the account or the money, has no basis. What is genuinely affected is the future rebate flow, and in the new-account case, a trade history cut into two pieces.

Why every broker answers differently
Referral commission does not live inside your trading account. It is a tag in the broker's internal system recording who this account belongs to. The broker pays whoever holds the tag at the moment you generate the trade.
The direct consequence: changing the tag only changes who receives commission from the change onwards. Volume you already traded still belongs to the previous party, and no broker recalculates backwards.
Whether a change is allowed at all is purely policy. Some brokers allow it with identity verification.
Some lock the tag permanently from the moment of registration, to stop introducers poaching each other's clients. That operational reason is real. It still does not make a locked-tag policy any less inconvenient for someone who wants to change.
Exness ranks "Change partner" alongside withdrawals
In the Exness Vietnamese help centre, the article Security types (broker updated 12/08/2026) lists the actions requiring proof of account ownership, and "Change partner" is on that list, next to things like withdrawing funds and changing your password.
That detail says two things. First, Exness has a change mechanism, otherwise there would be no need to classify it as requiring verification. Second, the broker treats changing as being on a par with a withdrawal in sensitivity, so you will have to confirm the action rather than click once and be done.
But being able to change does not mean your existing accounts move with you. The Exness help centre for partners spells out the other side:
If the client was previously registered under you but has changed to a different partner, you are still eligible to receive partnership rewards for trades on the accounts linked to you.
In practice: trading accounts opened before the change keep paying rewards to the old partner. The new partner only receives from trading accounts you open after the change. So the right sequence is to change partner, wait for the broker to confirm, then open a new trading account and move your capital to it.

In the other direction, the partner code is entered right on the registration form, according to the broker's own Registering an Exness account guide. So if you have not opened an account yet, this is the cheapest moment to decide, not later.
IC Markets: ask through the client portal
The official IC Markets website is now ic.com. To ask IC Markets about changing introducer, use live chat inside the client portal or email support.
How to ask your broker, and how to phrase it to get a usable answer
Support answers at exactly the level of specificity of the question. Ask something general and you get something general back.
- Ask about the current state first. "Which partner is my account number [number] currently attached to?" This forces them to look it up rather than answer in theory.
- Ask about policy, including the words "existing account". "Can I move this account to a different partner without opening a new account?" Without the second clause, many agents will assume you want to open a new one.
- Ask about timing. "If a change is possible, from when does it take effect?" This is what determines who gets the volume currently in progress.
- Save the answer. Screenshot the chat or keep the email. Broker policies change in waves, and a dated copy is the only thing you hold if there is a dispute later.
How to reconcile whether the rebate arrives in full is in how do you know your rebate actually arrived, and the rebate rate by account type is in Exness account types (article in Vietnamese).
One thing not to do: never give your account password to anyone offering to "handle the change for you". Attaching or changing the partner tag happens on the broker's side; nobody needs to log into your account to do it.
Before deciding whether to change or stay, it is also worth knowing what your current partner can read about your account. It changes how you weigh it up.
What the former introducer did, and why some tags are locked
The previous introducer did put in work somewhere, even if only in the fact that you heard about the broker through them.
And the locked-tag policy at some brokers exists for a real reason: with free switching, introducers would compete for each other's clients by advertising ever higher rebates, and the person ultimately bearing the cost is still the trader, as those offers drift further from reality.
Multiply it out using your own lot count
"Can I change" is the easy question. The more expensive one is whether a year of the rebate difference covers the effort and the risk of moving.
Running it with your own numbers settles it quickly. If you trade 5 lots a month and the difference is 1 USD per lot, that is 60 USD a year.
If you trade 100 lots a month, the same difference becomes 1,200 USD, and at that point moving is worth doing properly.
Already trade with Exness? Change your partner to DCTopTrade
An account you opened earlier can still earn rebates: you only need to change partner in the Exness app. It takes a few minutes. Watch the one-minute video or follow the four steps below.
Watch the change-partner videoUnder a minute, recorded in the Exness app - Open the Exness app, go to Profile → Live chat and type “Change partner”. The support bot sends you a link.
- Open the link, choose a reason, paste the DCTopTrade referral link (below) into “New partner referral link”, then tap Submit.
- Once Exness confirms the change, open a new trading account and trade on that one. Your old account still works but does not earn rebates, because Exness keeps existing accounts with the previous partner.
- Send your new account number to DCTopTrade on Telegram so we can verify it and switch on your rebates.

Rebates are paid by DCTopTrade, not by Exness. Trading forex, gold and silver carries high risk.
Frequently asked questions
Will my account be closed if I change introducer?
No. The partner tag sits in the broker’s internal system, separate from your trading account. Your balance, order history and open positions all stay as they are.
What about the rebate on volume I traded before the change?
It belongs to the previous party. A change only takes effect from the moment it is made; no broker recalculates the volume already accrued.
Does Exness allow changing partner?
Yes, with proof of account ownership, the same group as withdrawals and password changes. But according to the Exness help centre for partners (updated 14/09/2026), trading accounts opened before the change keep paying rewards to the old partner, so the new partner only receives from accounts you open after the change.
Where do I ask IC Markets about changing introducer?
Through live chat inside the client portal or email support. The official IC Markets website is now ic.com.
Is opening a new account under a different introducer considered fraud?
No, as long as you declare your identity accurately. Many brokers allow one person to hold several trading accounts. What to note is that your history will be split in two, and some benefits are counted per account rather than per person.
