XM deposits and withdrawals: fees, timing and bonus rules

Depositing and withdrawing at XM is simple to operate: the broker charges no fee, and the domestic channels are all there. But XM has one peculiarity that makes its money flow different from brokers without a bonus: your account balance usually has three parts: real money, bonus and profit.

These three parts follow different withdrawal rules. Not understanding this is the source of many questions like “why can’t I withdraw / why did my bonus vanish after I withdrew” in Vietnamese trader groups. Below are the real questions I see asked again and again, answered with numbers.

XM charges no deposit or withdrawal fee on its side; the minimum deposit starts from 5 USD depending on the account type. The steps: client area → Deposit → choose a channel → amount → confirm.

And as at any decent broker: get your KYC (identity verification) green first, then deposit. Depositing first and verifying later puts you in the position of “the money goes in fine, but has to wait to come out”.

Understanding the “3-part balance” with a concrete example

You deposit 100 USD and take a 50% bonus promotion → the account shows 150 USD. After a month of trading with a 30 USD profit, the balance is 180 USD. Its three parts:

  • Real money: 100 USD, withdrawable at any time (as long as it is not tied up as margin for open positions).
  • Bonus: 50 USD. It CANNOT be withdrawn directly; it just sits there as margin, raising how much loss the account can absorb.
  • Profit: 30 USD, which is your real money and can be withdrawn (subject to the bonus promotion’s volume conditions, if any).

What happens when you withdraw 50 USD of real money? The mechanism common to XM’s bonus promotions: the bonus is cut in proportion to the amount withdrawn relative to your real money. Withdrawing 50 of 100 USD = 50% → the bonus is cut by 50%, leaving 25 USD.

The broker’s logic: the reward is tied to the capital you keep in; take capital out and the matching share of the reward is taken back. It is not the broker “skimming”. It is in the terms from the start; few people read them.

The practical consequence: don’t withdraw in small dribs while holding a large bonus. About to need the money? Work it out in advance: use up the bonus’s “value” (trade enough volume for the profit it helps create to become withdrawable money), then withdraw once, in full.

“Can I withdraw the profit made with a bonus?”

Yes. And that is exactly where a bonus pays off: the bonus money can’t be withdrawn, but the profit it helped create is real money, withdrawn through the normal process once the volume condition is met (if the promotion has one).

Each promotion has its own conditions. Always read the terms of the exact promotion you received; don’t take the experience of someone who received a different promotion and apply it to yourself.

“How long does a withdrawal take?”

  • Broker approval: usually within the business day.
  • E-wallet: a few hours to 1 day after approval, the fastest.
  • Card: the money goes back through the card network’s refund mechanism, and it can take a few days to show on your statement. That is how Visa/Mastercard work, not XM being slow.
  • Bank transfer: add 1–3 business days for the interbank system.
  • The familiar anti-money-laundering (AML) rule: withdraw to the same channel and the same account you deposited from; your original capital goes back to its source first, and only the profit can choose a channel.

A withdrawal always has 2 stages: work out which stage is slow before blaming the broker.

“Why is there a balance I can’t withdraw in full?”: check 3 possibilities

  1. Open positions are using margin. The margin “carrying” your open positions is not available balance. Look at the free margin figure in MT4/MT5: that is the amount you can withdraw. To withdraw more, close some positions.
  2. That part is the bonus. Back to the 3-part example above: the 50 USD bonus shows in equity but can never be withdrawn directly.
  3. The volume condition is not met yet. For profit made under a promotion, go to the promotions page and see how many lots you are still short. If you are short, either trade the rest or accept giving up the profit tied to it. Do the sums coldly; don’t trade carelessly to “hit the lots” out of regret and lose more.

30-second checklist before every XM withdrawal

  • KYC green ✔, bank name matches your profile ✔, same channel you deposited with ✔
  • Worked out how much bonus this withdrawal will cut ✔
  • Free margin covers the amount you want to withdraw (without touching margin for open positions) ✔

With all 5 ✔ marks, an XM withdrawal runs as smoothly as at any decent broker. No account yet? Start with the guide to opening an XM account, which includes a section on choosing an account type with a real-money example.

And if you want the full picture of where this broker is strong and weak before you send money, the XM review 2026 covers both sides, including the points we don’t like.

Frequently asked questions

Does XM charge fees for deposits and withdrawals?

XM does not charge deposit or withdrawal fees on its side. However, an intermediary bank or payment gateway may charge its own fees, and international transfers sometimes carry a fee. Check directly in the deposit and withdrawal area.

How long does an XM withdrawal take?

It depends on the method: e-wallets and cards are usually faster, while a bank transfer can take a few business days depending on the intermediary bank. Accounts with complete KYC verification are delayed less often.

Why was my XM withdrawal rejected?

Usually because KYC is not complete, you withdrew by a different method from the one you deposited with, the bank account name does not match, or bonus conditions are still attached. Check these points before you create a withdrawal request.
