Is Olymp Trade a scam? No state licence, only a private body
Olymp Trade holds no state licence of any kind, only a certificate from a private association. Its core product is binary options, a product already banned from sale to retail clients in developed markets. On our 6 assessment criteria, this is not a place to put your money.
The maths that makes you lose money even when you guess right half the time
The Olymp Trade homepage, read on 24/08/2026, says “Increased profitability of up to 93%” and “Deposit just $10 to start trading”.
That 93% is not a return on your capital. It is what gets added when you guess right. Guess wrong and you lose the whole amount you staked.
Place 20 trades of 10 USD each, and suppose you are right exactly half the time. The ten winning trades add 93 USD. The ten losing trades take away 100 USD.
Result: minus 7 USD. Right half the time and still losing money, because what you win and what you lose are not the same size. To break even at 93%, you have to be right on 51.8% of trades. At an 80% payout, the figure is 55.6%.
This also explains why a demo account feels so different. A demo does not take that gap away from you after every round. A real account does, steadily, however well you read charts.
I read Olymp Trade’s own legal page and counted the regulators
There is no need to rely on a third party: the broker’s own Regulation page (read 04/08/2026) lists four entities:
Aollikus Limited. Vanuatu, company number 40131, Govant Building, Kumul Highway, Port Vila
Saledo Global LLC. Saint Vincent & the Grenadines
VISEPOINT LIMITED. Malta, registration number C 94716
MARTIQUE LIMITED. Cyprus, registration number HE 43318
Count the financial regulators on that list and there is only ONE: the VFSC in Vanuatu.
The Malta and Cyprus names sound very European. But what sits next to them is a company registration number. C 94716 and HE 43318 are not licence numbers. Being registered as a company in Cyprus only means the company exists there; it does not mean CySEC has licensed it.
You will meet this trap at other brokers too, so it is worth knowing one question by heart: “is this a company number or a licence number, and which authority issued it?”
The exact wording of Olymp Trade’s legal page, reread on 24/08/2026:
“The services on the Website are provided by Aollikus Limited, a licensed financial dealer, company number: 40131, registered address: 1276, Govant Building, Kumul Highway, Port Vila, Republic of Vanuatu.”
The operating entity is Aollikus Limited in Vanuatu; the digital assets business is held in the name of Saledo Global LLC (Saint Vincent & the Grenadines). The broker was founded in Russia in 2014 and has operated through offshore entities such as Smartex and Wallfort.
FinaCom and the 20,000 EUR figure: the same amount as a state fund, with no state behind it
Olymp Trade promotes its membership of the International Financial Commission (IFC), which it joined as a FinaCom member on 22/02/2016 according to the broker’s own page.
To put it plainly: IFC/FinaCom is a private dispute resolution body that brokers pay a fee to join. It has no power to inspect, fine or withdraw a licence the way the UK’s FCA or Australia’s ASIC does.
A broker with “only IFC” is a broker not supervised by the financial regulator of any country.
The broker’s own page also describes FinaCom as a dispute resolution body and calls the Financial Markets Association in Vanuatu a “self-regulatory body”. By their own description, none of these bodies is a state regulator.
And “insured up to 20,000 €”? The broker’s page says a trader can receive up to 20,000 EUR if they prove the broker was in the wrong. That sounds exactly like Cyprus’s ICF, also 20,000 EUR. Put the three funds side by side:
| Compensation fund | What it is | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| FinaCom (Olymp Trade is a member) | The fund of a private association, paid into and run by its own members | up to 20,000 EUR |
| ICF (Cyprus) | Set by law, supervised by the state regulator CySEC | up to 20,000 EUR |
| FSCS (UK) | Set by law, under UK law | up to 85,000 GBP |
The first two rows show the same figure but differ in who stands behind it. In a dispute, what counts is not the number printed on a promotional page but who can force the other side to pay. FinaCom has no state power.
It is a mediation scheme among members who joined voluntarily. On top of that, the 20,000 € fund pays out when a member fails to comply with a dispute ruling; it is not a compensation fund for when a firm collapses, the way the FSCS or ICF are, and it does not cover trading losses.
Being in FinaCom is still better than having no complaints mechanism at all, and Olymp Trade publishes both its entities and its addresses.
Those are two things the broker does right. But calling it “licensed” in the sense Vietnamese readers usually mean, supervised by a state authority, is not accurate.
On the CySEC warning: a number of industry news sites have reported that CySEC warned against Olymp Trade on 21/06/2024 for providing investment services without a licence.
I could not confirm this on CySEC’s own warnings list: the publicly displayed list only goes back to 02/2025. Treat this detail as industry press reporting, not as an original document I have read.
The map of places that have closed their doors to Olymp Trade
Indonesia has put Olymp Trade on its list of unlicensed binary options trading sites blocked from access; the country treats binary options as a form of illegal online gambling.
The broker is also not allowed to operate in the US, the EU, the UK and Canada, markets with strict investor protection standards; the EU and the UK ban retail binary options outright under ESMA and FCA rules.
In Vietnam the broker is not licensed, every trade sits outside the legal framework, and the law does not protect you if a dispute arises.
The common thread: binary-style products only survive in markets without strict rules, and the players there carry all the risk.
“Winning steadily on demo, losing with real money” is no mystery
Many Vietnamese traders tell the same story: trading the Olymp Trade demo they win again and again, then they deposit real money, lose gradually and blow the account. The reason lies in the maths at the start of this article.
A demo gives you confidence and the feeling of winning. But once real money is in, the asymmetric payout structure (win about 80%, lose 100%), together with real emotion, makes the long-run expectation negative if your hit rate does not clear the 55.6% break-even line.
This is a feature of the binary options model in general, not of Olymp Trade alone.
For Vietnamese traders there are three more practical risks. The “fixed time trade” model, whatever it is renamed, is still guessing whether the price goes up or down over a short period, with an asymmetric win/loss structure.
When your account is locked or a withdrawal is stuck, the only places to complain are the broker itself and the private body it belongs to. There is no real arbiter.
And around Olymp Trade, as around many other binary options brokers in Vietnam, there is an ecosystem of signal-calling groups living on referral commissions: their motive is your deposit, not your profit.
My assessment against the 6 criteria
Olymp Trade holds no licence from a state regulator, runs a core binary options product that is banned in developed markets, and is blocked in several countries in the region. On DCTopTrade’s 6 assessment criteria, this is not a suitable place to put your money.
If you are serious about trading, compare it with the minimum standard of a genuinely regulated broker in our ranking of 20 reputable forex brokers, or read the article on whether forex is a scam to learn how to tell them apart.
Frequently asked questions
Which authority licenses Olymp Trade?
Olymp Trade holds no licence from any state financial regulator. It is only a member of the IFC, a private dispute mediation body that brokers pay a fee to join.
Why is Olymp Trade blocked in Indonesia?
Indonesia classes binary options as illegal online gambling and has blocked access to many unlicensed binary options websites, Olymp Trade among them.
Does the law protect you if you trade on Olymp Trade from Vietnam?
No. The broker is not licensed in Vietnam, so every trade sits outside the legal framework. If you lose money or your account is locked, you have almost no way to claim your rights.
How is Fixed Time Trade on Olymp Trade different from binary options?
In substance they are the same: you guess whether the price will go up or down within a fixed time window, a win pays a fixed return, and a loss costs the whole stake. A new name does not change the risk structure.

- CySEC, public warnings list (checked 04/08/2026: no Olymp Trade entry could be confirmed; the displayed list only goes back to 02/2025)
- ESMA. Ban on binary options for retail investors
